About Us

Campus Best Practice (CBP) is the GÉANT networking activity consisting of Campus Best Practice partner NRENs and technical experts from the campus community. The networking group aims to address key challenges for European campus networks by organising working groups and providing an evolving and to-the-point set of best practice documents (BPDs) for the community.

Our Mission

It is our mission to have as many European campus networks adopt campus best practices to maximise the utility and value of services to their end users.

Our Core Activity

Build National Working Groups where IT Professionals collaborate to create common IT practices that are translated into Best Practice Documents.

Our Best Practice reports describe positive ways in which technologies are adopted and services are provided on European campuses within categories such as: Physical Infrastructure, Campus Networking, Wireless Networking, Network Monitoring, Real-time Communications and Security. The Best Practice Documents are a collaborative effort between the Campus Best Practice NREN and their national working group and are translated into English for international dissemination.

This method builds upon experiences from the Norwegian GigaCampus project (2006-2009)and recommendations from the EARNEST report.

Focus areas are Physical Infrastructure, Campus Networking (including IPv6), Wireless, Network Monitoring, Real-time Communications and Security.

Our Approach

Creating communities that share challenges, experiences and agree upon common best practices to Campus network challenges.

Our Partners

Campus Best Practice, formerly led by UNINETT successfully established CBP teams in the Czech, Finnish and Serbian teams. Since then five new NRENs joined the group. These are RENATER (France),  BREN (Bulgaria), FCT-FCCN (Portugal), MARNET (F.Y.R of Macedonia) and MREN (Montenegro).

Our Achievements

The nine NRENs were able to organise numerous workshops, disseminate their work at several conferences, and write 58 best practice documents (BPDs) with 20 more on the drawing table. We also conducted a series of training events, just to namen a few of our major achievements. Campus Best Practice is currently being led by CSC/FUNET.
