The Academic Network of Serbia (AMRES) is the national research and education network of Serbia with over 150 connected institutions and more than 150,000 active users. In collaboration with Belgrade University Computing Center, AMRES have been involved in the GÉANT CBP task from its beginning.
Prior to joining the GÉANT CBP task, AMRES already had a tradition of organising regular meetings and workshops where AMRES member institutions IT personnel were participating. However AMRES didn't have an established practice of organising national working groups nor of writing the best practice documents for specific technical areas of interest. The CBP task was recognised as a great opportunity for providing this experience, and to further develop the infrastructure and services for whole Serbian R&E community.
The first step for the AMRES CBP team was to promote CBP to the R&E community in Serbia. After receiving good feedback, AMRES started organising specific working groups which resulted in writing national best practice documents. The need of our community for the best practices in particular fields and already gathered experience were criteria for choosing technical areas to work on.
Selected best practice documents are written in Serbian in order to share with the Serbian R&E community. Due to similarities between the languages of some countries in our region, Serbian versions of the documents are also suitable for their R&E communities. These documents are then translated into English, in order to benefit the global R&E community.
Participating at national and international conferences, organising and participating at a number of workshops represents a great opportunity to spread our knowledge to a number of countries and networks in Europe and also learn from their communities.
Being part of CBP has been amazing experience for AMRES. Even though it has been a long and fruitful journey AMRES has still a lot to learn and contribute.
